A subway agitation was held on December 29 at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues Station, targeting passengers on the L train. Organizers raised awareness about the death of Robert Brooks, who was fatally beaten by corrections officers, and called for justice by urging participants to join the movement demanding accountability and punishment for those responsible.

Robert Brooks, a 43-year-old inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility, died on December 10 after allegedly being violently beaten by corrections officers. Body camera footage released by New York Attorney General Letitia James shows Brooks restrained and assaulted by multiple officers, with preliminary autopsy findings indicating asphyxia due to neck compression as the cause of death. Brooks was serving a 12-year sentence at the time.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for systemic reforms within New York’s prison system. Advocacy groups have highlighted long-standing issues of violence and racial discrimination in state prisons, with a 2023 report revealing that four out of five inmates at Marcy Correctional Facility had witnessed or experienced abuse. Thirteen corrections officers involved in the incident have been suspended, and one resigned, but protesters and advocacy organizations are demanding more comprehensive accountability and justice for Brooks and his family.
