Protesters Rally in NYC to Oppose Adams and Trump Over Immigration Policies

Protesters gathered in Washington Square Park on Saturday to demand the removal of Mayor Eric Adams and to reject former President Donald Trump, citing their immigration policies as harmful to New York’s immigrant communities. 

The rally, organized by the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), drew demonstrators holding signs that read “Remove Adams, Reject Trump” and “No Detentions.” Participants accused Adams of aligning with Trump’s immigration enforcement policies in exchange for personal legal favors, a claim Adams’ office has denied.

“Eric Adams sold us out,” the NYIC wrote in a social media post ahead of the protest. “But New York will always stand up for our immigrant neighbors.” 

The demonstration comes amid growing criticism of Adams’ stance on migrant issues. The mayor, once a vocal advocate for immigrants, has recently called for stricter border controls and has pushed policies that some activists say mirror those of the Trump administration. 

Protesters also voiced concerns over Trump’s potential return to office, fearing renewed crackdowns on immigrant communities. The rally included speeches from activists, local leaders and immigrant rights advocates. City officials have not commented on the protest. No arrests were reported.
