Out of the Lab and Into the Streets: Scientists Rally Against Federal Science Cuts

Scientists, medical professionals, and advocates gathered at Washington Square Park on Thursday, March 7, to rally in support of science funding and evidence-based policymaking. The “Stand Up for Science 2025” event was organized in response to recent federal budget cuts and policy shifts affecting public health and climate research.

Protesters held signs reading “Protect Research, Protect Lives” and “Science Must Not Be Silenced” as they marched through the park, voicing concerns over the administration’s approach to scientific integrity.

Participants specifically criticized policies restricting gender-affirming healthcare and reducing diversity programs in research institutions, arguing that such measures threaten scientific progress and public health initiatives.
